KARAK: The residents of Khurram Muhammadzai locality here have demanded upgradation of a girls high school to higher secondary level.

Speaking at a meeting on Monday, former councillor Rafiullah Khattak, Romanullah Khattak, Sikandar Khan and others said the female students were forced to skip education after matriculation. They said additional classrooms had already been built in the school for the purpose of its upgradation.

They added majority of people were poor and could not manage to enroll their daughters in colleges of other areas.

The speakers said there was only one girls higher secondary school in Teri area of the entire Banda Daud Shah tehsil. They said despite their repeated requests the elected representatives had failed to upgrade the girls high school.

They also demanded immediate launch of classes in the Alaf Jana Khattaka Girls’ Degree College in Banda Daud Shah.

Meanwhile, the elders of Tarkikhel area have expressed resentment over lack of a science teacher in the area’s girls high school, and set a one-week deadline for the appointment, or they would take to the streets.

Speaking at a meeting on Monday, they said a lot of time of the students had already been wasted due to the prolonged closure of educational institutions on account of Covid-19-induced lockdown. They said any further wastage of time would be fatal for the future of students.
