I WAS extremely saddened to read the article ‘Wasting away’ by Ahmed Rabbani (Sept 22). This is gross injustice and violation of human rights by the US government, which never gets tired of criticising developing countries for human rights violations.

I am, however, surprised as to how this article was sent to Dawn from Guantanamo Bay. Are the US security officials in the prison providing the detainee internet access while torturing him at the same time?

I am also surprised that despite being educated, he was driving a taxi in Karachi before being kidnapped. Why can’t our government protest diplomatically to the US government for keeping a Pakistani citizen in jail without any charge for the last 18 years?

I wish and pray that his ordeal ends soon and he is united with his family.
