ISLAMABAD: A college, a private school and a university’s hostel and department have been sealed after Covid-19 cases were detected there.

Capital administration and police officials told Dawn that a department and a hostel at the National University of Modern Languages (Numl) was sealed after four people tested positive for Covid-19.

A notification issued in this regard stated that a case of Covid-19 was reported from Numl in H-9. This is the fourth case reported from the institution.

The notification said the latest patient’s department and hostel should be closed and disinfected, while all exposed staff and students should be tested for Covid-19. All of the patient’s close contacts must be quarantined for 14 days.

Officials said that directives have also been issued to seal a private school in I-8/4 and a girls’ college in G-6/2. Each of these institutions reported three cases each.

There were 91 Covid-19 cases reported in the capital on Wednesday, up from 56 the day prior.

Capital administration officials said that 91 people tested positive out of 2,979 tests carried out in the last 24 hours.

The number of confirmed new cases crossed 90 for the first time since July 15, they added, when 113 cases of Covid-19 were reported in the city. Since then there had been fewer than 87 cases per day.

Throughout August, the number of daily new cases did not cross 41.

However, the officials said there has not yet been a sustained rise in the number of new Covid-19 cases in the capital, as the number keeps fluctuating.

On Wednesday, 49 male patients and 42 female patients tested positive for the disease.

There were 11 cases reported from G-9, followed by nine cases each from G-10 and Bhara Kahu, seven each from Tarlai and I-8, six cases from I-10, five each from P.W.D. and Golra, four cases from the National Police Foundation, three cases each from Bahria Town and F-11, two cases each from Ghouri Town, Kurri, G-15, I-9, G-8, G-7 and G-11, and one case each from D.H.A., Soan Garden, Korang Town, D-12, H-8, G-5, E-8 and E-11.

They said the district administration and District Health Office are closely observing the situation. People have been advised not to leave their homes if they have any symptoms of Covid-19, and to wear a mask and socially distance if it is necessary for them to leave.

The officials said that the contacts of the reported patients are being traced and suspected patients are being asked to quarantine.

Rawalpindi

A total of 20 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Rawalpindi and 10 patients have recovered from the disease.

Rawalpindi district has reported 7,104 cases of Covid-19 in the last six months, with 291 deaths and 6,671 recoveries.

A total of 274 people have been isolated by the district administration while they await their test results.

There are 18 confirmed patients admitted to the Rawalpindi Institute of Urology, of which 15 are from within the district and the rest from elsewhere. Another 124 patients are isolated in their homes.

Local administrations say 505 people are quarantined.

According to data from the Rawalpindi division, 8,530 people were diagnosed with Covid-19 since March, including 7,104 in Rawalpindi, 633 in Attock, 495 in Jhelum and 298 in Chakwal.

So far, 8,009 patients have recovered; 6,671 in Rawalpindi, 605 in Attock, 481 in Jhelum and 252 in Chakwal. There have also been 359 deaths, including 291 in Rawalpindi, 39 in Chakwal, 20 in Attock and nine in Jhelum.
