LAHORE: Lahore Sangat members installed on Monday the plaques of outstanding personalities who used to live in different vicinities of the city.

Lahore Sangat is an informal association of Lahoris that works to remember and pay tribute to the extraordinary people, not sufficiently acknowledged, by mapping where they lived and worked and putting up distinctive blue enamel plaques in their memory.

Members installed the plaque of Bhai Ram Singh at the Boundary Wall of Lahore Museum & National College of Arts. The plaque of Prof Anna Molka was installed inside the Punjab University Old Campus, the original office of the head of the faculty of Art and Design. The plaque of Lala Lajpat Rai was installed at the gate of Gol Bagh (Nasser Bagh). The plaque of Amrita Pritam was installed at Dhani Ram Street, Anarkali. The plaque of Maharaj Ghulam Hussain Kathak was installed at Dehli Muslim Hotel, Anarkali.

The members who came and participated in the installation of plaques were Fauzia Qureshi, , Dr Ajaz Anwar, Fiza Zaman, Nighat Saeed Khan, Ghazala Rehaman, Nazish Attaullah, Popti Bukhari, Fatimam Hafza Imtiaz, Seher Jalil and Sheehnaz Malih. Akhtar Chohan from the MCL helped install plaques.

The individuals whose plaques were installed on Monday and earlier in March this year are painters, writers, poets, architects, craftsmen, wrestlers, storytellers, actors, scholars, teachers, revolutionaries, philosophers, jurists, cooks, weavers, embroiderers, designers, doctors, philanthropists, saints, mystics, musicians, singers, freedom fighters, dancers, sportsmen and women, dramatists, travelers, composers, publishers, journalists, theatre, and film personalities.

Lahore Sangat has prepared a preliminary list of 140 icons of which over 20 plaques have already been installed. Earlier this year in March 11 plaques were installed within the Walled City of Lahore however due to the Covid lockdown the process was stopped.
