KASUR: Six suspected robbers tortured policemen and snatched an official gun and bullets at gunpoint in Mandayki village on Tuesday.

Police lodged a criminal case against the unidentified suspects without any arrests so far.

The incident took place when a police team, headed by a trainee assistant sub-inspector (TASI), went to rescue passersby being looted by a group of alleged robbers near clay mounds close to Changa Manga’s Mandayki village.

Police lodged a case against six ‘robbers’ under sections 324, 353, 397, 186 of PPC on the complaint of TASI Mudassar Mahboob.

According to the first information report, local police were informed that ‘robbers’ were looting mobile phones, cash and other valuables from passersby. When the

team reached the spot, they were resisted by the suspects, who held the team at gunpoint, tortured them and snatched an official gun as well as 30 live bullets from them.

As a result of the alleged manhandling, Constable Muhammad Tufail suffered injuries and was rushed to Chunian THQ Hospital.

Police were looking into the matter.
