LAHORE: An alleged robber was shot dead, while a citizen injured seriously during crossfire in Nawankot area late on Sunday.

There were also reports that another robber was also injured in the firing by the citizen, but the criminal managed to flee the scene.

A police official said two robbers intercepted Fahad Khan and attempted to snatch his mobile phone and cash at gunpoint.

Meanwhile, Fahad who was carrying his licenced pistol offered resistance and opened fire on the criminals, injuring one of them seriously.

The police official said one of the robbers returned the fire and injured Fahad too, who kept on firing at the criminals despite suffering a bullet injury.

Consequently, one of the robbers died on the spot, while the other managed to escape on a motorcycle, he said.

The police, on being informed of the incident, reached the spot and shifted the injured man to hospital where his condition was stated to be critical.

The police official said that the body of the dead robber had been shifted to the city morgue for autopsy, while a case was lodged.

In another incident, a young man suffered a deep cut on his neck by string of a stray kite in Shafiqabad area here on Sunday night.

According to a police official, the injured man, Imran (30), was on motorcycle when the incident occurred.
