SHANGLA: The lady health workers observed a strike across the district on Wednesday in protest against murder of a colleague in North Waziristan tribal district and harassment of another one in Bannu during the ongoing anti-polio campaign.

The strike call was given by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Lady Health Workers Association. The LHWs wore black armbands to denounce the murder of Nahida Bibi.

Talking to reporters after a meeting in Alpuri, Shahid Zada, president LHWs association, Shangla chapter, and others said killing of LHWs during the anti-polio campaigns had become a routine, reflecting on the poor security arrangements made for them.

They said the health workers lost lives in the line of duty should not be called killed and should be called martyred. They asked the provincial government to immediately announce martyred package for the slain LHW and also register case against the accused in both the incidents.
