KARACHI: Sports events in twenty disciplines will be contested in the Korangi Sports Festival which will be held in the second week of October while thirty prominent players and officials belonging to Korangi district will be given awards for their contribution in sports.

The festival will kick-off with an exhibition cricket match at the Rashid Latif Academy between Commissioner Karachi XI and Chief Secretary XI.

This was stated by Shehryar Gul, Administrator and Deputy Commissioner Korangi, in a meeting with KBBA president Ghulam Mohammad who was appointed coordinator Korangi sports festival here on Monday.

“The Korangi district has produced fine sportspersons such as batsmen Saeed Anwar, Taslim Arif, spinner Tauseef Ahmed, renowned athlete Naseem Hameed and many others and we will pay tribute to all of them by holding this sports festival in their honour,” said Shehryar.

A football tournament will be staged at the Colony Sports Stadium, Malir while a shootingball tournament will be organised at Ghazi courts in Shah Faisal Colony.

“The inaugural meeting of the festival organising committee will be held on Sept 25,” he said.
