KARACHI: An eight-year-old boy was shot dead by suspected robbers while a citizen was hurt in Sohrab Goth on Monday, according to police.

The police said the armed robbers tried to loot a milk shop and a general store in Ayub Goth. When the shopkeeper did not open his shop, the outlaws resorted to aerial firing to force him to open it.

In the gunfire, a passerby boy identified as Rantik Prem was shot dead while a man, Shahbaz, 22, was injured, said area SHO Abdul Rasool Siyal. The body and the injured were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital to fulfil legal formalities.

Separately, a suspect was shot dead in an encounter in Sohrab Goth area.

Police said three suspects were allegedly looting people near Indus Plaza when a police party reached there. An exchange of fire began and two suspects identified as Ismail Hayat and Feroz Naeem, 24, were arrested in injured condition while their third accomplice fled. The wounded were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where Feroz died during treatment.

The police claimed to have seized two pistols, one motorcycle, Rs20,000 cash and five mobile phones from their possession.
