SWABI: Speakers at a function here on Sunday paid glowing tributes to the literary services of renowned Pashto poet Prof Abaseen Yousafzai.

The function was organised jointly by Qam Qalam, Watan Qalam, Hewad Adabi Tarhoon and other literary organisations in honour of Prof Abaseen Yousafzai over his nomination for President’s Pride of Performance Award.

Perhaps it was the first occasion that all literary figures and various literary bodies of the district gathered at one platform.

Prof Abaseen, the chairman of Pashto department in Islamia College University, also attended the session while renowned poet and former provincial minister Abdul Subhan Khan was chief guest on the occasion.

The prestigious award would be conferred on Prof Abaseen on Pakistan Day next year.

Speaking on the occasion, Abdul Subhan Khan, Jehan Bahadar and Faizul Wahab Faiz and others said that Prof Abaseen was a poet of immense gifts would always remain in the hearts of people.

“We also praise his work as a teacher because he teaches with dedication and eloquence,” they added.

The speakers said that Prof Abaseen was highly respected throughout the Pakhtun-inhabited area in Pakistan and Afghanistan due to his tremendous contribution to Pashto language and literature.

They said that they felt honoured over nomination of Prof Abaseen for the presidential award. They said that he deserved the award as a recognition of his literary services.

CAMP: A free medical camp was by Transparent Binders in Baja village here on Sunday.

The patients were checked and free medicines were provided to them on the occasion. Minor surgeries were also conducted at the camp.

Asad Qaiser, the speaker of National Assembly, and principal of Gajju Khan Medical College also visited the camp and exchanged views with the patients and doctors.

Dr Mohammad Farooq said on the occasion that they checked about 500 patients having diseases of different natures at the camp.

He said that Transparent Binders had so far spent Rs168 million on provision of free medicines to patients at different such camps arranged across the country.
