RAWALPINDI: For the first time, no position was given to students in their secondary school certificate (SSC) examination held under the boards of intermediate and secondary education in Punjab.

The boards announced the results on the basis of the students’ performance in academics.

But parents were of the view that the students had sit the exam and the boards should have given them positions.

However, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Rawalpindi’s spokesman Arslan Cheema said due to the coronavirus pandemic, the government decided to announce the results without marking the first three positions.

He said the same policy was adopted by all educational boards across the country and the Punjab Board Committee of Chairmen (PBCC) had issued a notification to announce the results without ranking.

The SSC exams were held in Punjab before the closure of educational institutions due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the educational boards arranged practicals after Ramazan.

The boards had already prepared the results of the exams bu the chief minister’s approval was required to announce it.

Meanwhile, the BISE Rawalpindi announced the results through a press statement.

It said 122,553 students - 57,128 boys and 65,425 girls - had submitted forms for the annual exams.

It said 121,507 students participated in the exams and 91,888 of them were declared successful while 1,007 remained absent. The pass percentage remained 75.65.
