KARACHI: Thoroughbred three-year-old bay mare Smart Girl pulled off a surprise by getting the better of seven-year-old bay mare Abdullah Princess by eight lengths to lift the War Heroes Cup in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Smart Girl belonging to the stables of Syed Sibghatullah Shah Pir Pagara, was opened favourite but later odds of Abdullah surged.

Another mare Enable was placed third beaten by two-and-a-half lengths while Parachuter completed the frame another five lengths away among seven starters.

Smart Girl was sent by trainer Mohyuddin and piloted home by Asad Aksir.

It was also the feature event, combined top scale order I, II, III and IV.

Fancied mare Risky obliged all and sundry defeating Meri Chahat as she pleased by 10 lengths to win the supporting event.

Earlier, rider Mohammad Sajjad and trainer Mohammad Shahzad excelled in their cadres winning a double apiece in Kamyab and King Queen.

In the other two races favourite Galileo Lady and outsider Starka returned victorious.

Meanwhile, rider Wasim escaped injuries as Dominator fell after taking a jump at the starting gate and was later destroyed.
