Aamir Khan meets Turkey's First Lady, gets trolled back home in India

The abuse follows Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s stand on the Kashmir issue, voicing his country’s support to Pakistan
Updated 18 Aug, 2020

Bollywood star Aamir Khan’s meeting with the first lady of Turkey, Emine Erdogan made headlines and took over top social media trends on Monday morning.

While the photos got fans excited about the actor’s film*, Laal Singh Chaddha*, trolls went all out criticising his meeting with “enemies of INDIA.”

The first lady shared photos with the actor on her official Twitter handle with a note that read, “I had the great pleasure of meeting @aamir_khan, the world-renowned Indian actor, filmmaker, and director, in Istanbul. I was happy to learn that Aamir decided to wrap up the shooting of his latest movie `Laal Singh Chaddha’ in different parts of Turkey. I look forward to it!”

For those unaware, the trolling follows Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s stand on the Kashmir issue, voicing his country’s support to Pakistan, stating that it can be resolved not through conflict or oppression but on the basis of justice and fairness.

The shooting of Laal Singh Chaddha was brought to a grinding halt following the announcement of a nationwide lockdown, to curb the Covid-19 crisis. The film that was initially set for a year-end 2020 release, has now been postponed to next year.

The film that is an official adaptation of the Tom Hanks starrer, Forrest Gump, will also feature Kareena Kapoor Khan in a pivotal role.

Just meeting a highest level of dignitaries of a country is a big honour for any one. What if it had been a non Muslim Indian actor. Would the hue and cry by the Indian mob political circles would have been at the same level. Don’t think so. It would have been very conveniently over looked.

@Jamal (or should I call you Kamal) as I wonder what he did to deserve your ire??? You can boycott the movie but your I'm really surprised at your narrow-mindedness. Mr. Khan has not issued any controversial statements during his visit to Turkey. You are one of those Modi toadies who think that misguided nationalism and jingoism are what make a "patriotic" Indian.

But it is not OK for Amir Khan, while in Turkey, to meet the first lady of Turkey. How long will this hatred and intolerance go on?

Indians like the Characters Muslim actors play and it is taken as sign of their personal popularity. It is far from the truth if you read the trolls they get. Even in 'Lal Singh Chadda' Amir is playing a full fledged Sikh Character. It is irony of Indians that they will accept Amir's Sikh getup with full flowing beard but won't accept him in a Muslim Character with full flowing beard.

The trend of negative comments on the call of Amir Khan on Madam Urdogan speaks volumes about hatred inculcated and nurtured in India .Bollywood is itself responsible for this, as a number of Kashmir centered films launched in recent years have been portraying Kashmir in unreal way. Notwithstanding the just political cause of Kashmir, there are other aspects also associated with kashmir and Kashmiries which are brighter and worth for emulation .Our name shall not be treated with such a degree of contempt , that if any political person supports us it becomes a crime.
