TOBA TEK SINGH: A robbery accused, who was in custody of Rajana police, was shot at and injured on Saturday morning in an alleged encounter between the police and the robbers.

A press release issued by district police claimed that a police team was taking accused Faisal Saleem Butt of Rajana to raid his other accomplices. When the police reached near forest Baghat, adjacent to Chak 361-GB, unidentified persons opened fire on their van. When the police retaliated fire, the attackers escaped; however, one bullet hit Butt. He was admitted to the district headquarters hospital in a critical condition.

The police later arrested another accused Nasrullah Ibad of Chak 286/GB from the forest.

AWARD: Among 184 Pakistanis and foreigners who were given awards for their services to Pakistan in different fields, Prof Dr Hameedullah Hashmi, selected for Tamgha-i-Imtiaz (literature), belongs to Toba Tek Singh.

He holds a PhD in Urdu Literature and master’s degrees in Urdu, Punjabi, Islamic studies and History. Hashmi has so far written 110 books and is working on his 111th book.
