Over 20 hurt in aerial firing in Karachi city

KARACHI: At least two dozen people, including one policeman, were shot at and wounded in apparent celebratory firing carried out in different parts of the metropolis on Thursday night in connection with Independence Day celebrations, said police and hospital officials.

The policeman was hurt while performing his duty at IG prisons’ residence.

Dr Seemin Jamali of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre said that they received nine people who said they had suffered bullet injuries during aerial firing carried out in jubilation.

A police spokesperson said that a total of 24 people, including women, were wounded when they received bullets fired from unknown directions.

The wounded persons were admitted to different hospitals for treatment.

Irfan Hassan, 40, was shot at and wounded at Paan Mandi by a bullet coming from an unknown direction. Fahad Hussain, 20, was injured in Allama Iqbal Colony. Sameer Gul, 24, was injured in Orangi Town. Shahzaib Hanif, 22, was hurt in Lyari near Ali Hotel. Mariam Zulfiqar, 28, was shot at and wounded in Mehran Town of Korangi by a bullet coming from an unknown direction. Saqib Farooq, 21, was injured in Mohammed Ali Society. Ameena, 60, was injured in Samoo Goth. Safaidullah, 38, was injured at Aljadoon School. Faisal Aleem, 42, was wounded in Awami Colony of Korangi. Rasool Khan, 55, was hurt in Shireen Jinnah Colony. M. Azam, 32, was shot at and wounded at Kala Board.

Police constable M. Abbas, 32, was injured while he was performing his duty at the IG prisons’ home near Dawood University by a bullet coming from an unknown direction.

Zain Aslam, 20, was injured near Arshi shopping mall. Saima Aijaz, 28, was wounded near Nagan Chowrangi. Abdullah Jameel, 17, was hurt near Kati Pahari. Afsana Nadir, 31, was injured at 4-K Chowrangi. Danial Saeed, 20, was hurt near in Orangi Town. Shehnaz Habib, 25, was wounded near Qatar Hospital. Riyaz Aziz, 30, was wounded near Khamisa Goth. Kiran Salahuddin, 19, was injured in Sector-11 of Orangi Town. Aina Zulfiqar, 20, was wounded in North Nazimabad. Irfan, 40, was injured at Al-Karam school. Nazo, 38, was injured at Al Azam Plaza. Ismail Hanif, 20, was injured Near Haji Mureed Goth.
