Inside Karachi's first ever tourist attractions map

Inside Karachi's first ever tourist attractions map

Graphic designer and artist Assam Altaf featured 108 visit-worthy locations. How many do you recognise?
Updated 07 Aug, 2020

Ever spotted a tourist in the city of lights and wondered what their visit would look like?

Think no more! Graphic designer and artist Assam Altaf just created Karachi's first tourist attractions map, featuring 108 places including historical buildings, educational institutes, hospitals, amusement theme parks, beaches, resorts, parks, religious worship spaces, industrial and residential areas, business hubs; and even the port.

A photo posted by Instagram (@instagram) on

You can view the map in high-resolution here.

Recognised as the city of opportunities, Assam believes the map was complex to execute. He captured it best when he wrote, "Karachi Tourist Map was the most challenging map for me so far, because it has a mini country living inside."

While it took him 7-8 visits to truly understand the essence of this city ((he's originally from Lahore), Altaf wants to keep exploring the domestic tourism available here. Previously, he had also taken the initiative to draft a map of tourist attractions in Pakistan. If you're out to explore, these guides could be a great resource.

How many locations do you recognise on the Karachi map? Tell us in the comment section below!

Well done. But this is the real problem of Karachi. Nobody inside comes forward and produce this type of work. Tourism is the gold mine for any city to move forward. I hope we Karachites somehow one day will get together & think about this city as mega city and work for the betterment. For a satire, he forgot to mention gujjar nala.

Map appearing lush green, in start contrast with the ground reality of a concrete and dust city.

Just cleanup the city and the beaches; make it less chaotic and safe and then this map effort will not go to waste.

A virtual map of a great City. Could be used by virtual foreign tourists with virtual foreign exchange to virtually solve our Forex problems and our virtual current account problems for our virtual development.

He missed out a few spots. Manora Island with its KPT lighthouse tower, and the mandir, mazaar and Church. Manghopir Mazar Pahar Ganj, of which one section is the notorious Kati Pahari (dude it should be made into a tourist spot). Banaras Market in Banaras Town, Orangi Zainab Market More areas in Lyari other than Lea market Highway dhaabba style restaurants on super highway. Not sure if they exist still. although it is a very good effort and many places of worship are mentioned which is good. Though some bookstores can be added too like Thomas and Thomas, tidbits (opposite Bohra bazaar), and some weekly book bazaars.

This is a great idea and is VERY well done! The number of attractions is extensive. Will very likely encourage Karachiites themselves to explore and rediscover the city of lights while giving a sense of the city's history and diversity. Assam really deserves credit!

Karachi has a huge potential for tourism as any other mega city of world. But we need to clean it first to attract the tourists.
