ISLAMABAD: The capital administration on Thursday closed all shrines and graveyards except for burial during the Eid holidays to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Besides, all parks, picnic places like Lake View Park, F-9 Park, Jasmine Garden, Daman-i-Koh and hill stations will remain closed.

Officials said the step was taken to avoid gathering of people at these places during the holidays which may result in further spread of the virus.

A notification issued from the office of the deputy commissioner Islamabad stated: “All shrines, graveyards (except burial/funeral ceremonies), parks/picnic places (Lake View Park, F-9 Park, Jasmine Garden, Daman-i-Koh etc) and hill stations shall remain closed during the Eid holidays.”

The order shall come into force at 6pm on Thursday, it added.

Meanwhile, 24 positive cases were reported in the capital on Thursday.

Four cases each were reported from I-8 and F-7 followed by two each from G-13, Sohan, Soan Garden, one case earch form Zaraj Housing Scheme, Rawal Town, Lehtrar Road, I-10, G-7, G-6, F-15, Bhara Kahu and Bahria Town.

During the last 24 hours, 1,840 tests were conducted to trace the virus among citizens.The capital administration sealed two hotels and three shops for violating the Covid-19 SOPs. Besides, fines worth Rs8,500 were also imposed on other shopkeepers.

Rawalpindi

Only three patients tested positive in Rawalpindi district on Thursday.

One of the new patient belonged to outside the district. Moreover, 38 patients were discharged from Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU), Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) and Holy Family Hospital (HFH). As many as 25 of these patients were from Azad Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining districts, said Commissioner retired Capt Mohammad Mehmood.

He said the number of patients in the Rawalpindi division was decreasing as three cases were reported from Rawalpindi and two from Attock.After the new cases, thenumber of confirmed patients in Rawalpindi district increased to 6,516.

However, 98 suspected patients are waiting for their results from laboratories.

Total 288 confirmed patients are under treatment, including 118 in hospitals and 170 isolated in their homes.

Meanwhile, 63 shops were sealed in Rawalpindi and 26 in Chakwal for violating the lockdown.

Teams from checked 133 shops and markets and imposed Rs209,000 fines on the violators in the division.

Four vehicles were also impounded and the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) imposed Rs33,500 fines on the transporters for violating SOPs. Moreover, 28 vehicle owners were issued warnings.

Attock

Recovered patients outnumbered active patients in the Attock district and Taxila tehsil.

According to data, 480 positive patients recovered in Attock district while there are currently 72 active patients of whom 68 are under home isolation and four are under treatment in hospitals.

In Taxila, 294 patients recovered and there are 103 active patients in the tehsil of whom 86 are under home isolation and 17 being treated in hospitals.--Additional reporting by Amjad Iqbal
