ISLAMABAD: During the last two days, three more Covid-19 patients died and 95 new cases were reported in the capital.

Officials said a significant decrease was seen in the confirmed cases as only 23 people were found infected on Monday. However, a resident of I-9 died of the virus.

During the last 24 hours, 1,259 tests were conducted out of which 23 were found positive.

Three each were reported from I-8, G-10, Chak Shahzad, two each from I-10, G-9, F-11, one each from Afendi Colony, Farash Town, Bahria Town Phase III, Ghouri Town Phase II, Sihala, G-7, G-11 and Bhara Kahu.

On Sunday, seven cases each were reported from PWD, G-7, five from G-10, four each from G-8, G-13, Bahria Enclave, three each from Margalla Town, I-10, G-11, two each from Prime Minister Staff Colony, Mohalla Harno, I-9, I-8, G-15, Chak Shahzad, Bhara Kahu, one each from Tramri, Rawat, Khanna, Rawal Town, Pims Colony, PAF Hospital, Mohrian, H-8, H-13, G-6, G-12, F-6, and E-10. The addresses of the remaining cases were not known.

District Health Officer Dr Zaeem Zia said surveillance of confirmed cases and tracing of their contacts resulted in containing the spread of the virus.

Though the number of confirmed cases has decreased significantly, he added, surveillance is still mounted at high risk areas. The DHO said random collection of samples also continued in these areas, including Marakiz, shopping centres, barber shops and grocery stores.

Besides, contact tracing of the confirmed cases is also in progress, he said.

Taxila

Two more people tested positive in the last 24 hours in Attock raising the tally of cases in the district to 546, health department officials said on Monday.

District focal person for Covid-19 Dr Asif Arbab Niazi said one of the new patients belonged to Attock city and the other was from Hazro. The number of active patients in the district is now 154.

According to district health authorities, one person died of Covid-19 in Pindigheb town of Attock on Monday. The deceased was identified as a 58-year-old man.

Mr Niazi said the number of suspected cases increased to 3,918 while screening of 7,499 people was conducted and 3,131 of them tested negative.

He said the results of 241 suspected patients were awaited.

He said out of 516 positive patients 148 were home isolated and 372 patients have recovered so far. — Additional reporting by Amjad Iqbal
