WHILE travelling from Karachi to Hyderabad, we can see a number of housing schemes in the pipeline. When I asked a local resident whether these housing schemes were reliable or registered, he replied that most of the societies were being built on state land sold to them by land-grabbers in connivance with revenue officials.

This is an organised crime where most of the scheme owners are unaware of about ground realities. In some cases, locals are forced to sell their inherited land to these schemes. This land was leased to their forefathers for the sole purpose of agriculture.

Furthermore, in some cases influential landlords claim state land as their own and sell such valuable land to real estate builders. The poor inhabitants who have been living there for years suffer badly owing to this dubious ‘business’.

It is the duty of the authorities concerned to take notice of these this fraud.
