KARACHI: At least 76 healthcare providers at Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) have been tested positive for coronavirus in the last two and a half months.

An administrative official of CHK said that 76 employees of Sindh’s largest tertiary-care institution including 26 doctors, 23 nurses and 27 other staffers have contracted the virus in last two and a half months.

The management has conducted screening for doctors, nurses and paramedical staff to control further spread of the viral disease. The corona-positive staffers are isolated at their homes while some of them are in hospital for further treatment.

Similarly, more than 30 healthcare workers of Karachi Burns Centre have been tested Covid-19 positive.

CHK medical superintendent Dr Khadim Hussain Qureshi said around 76 healthcare professional contracted the coronavirus in CHK; however, no death due to the virus was reported as yet. He informed that majority of healthcare workers have already recovered from the disease.

He claimed big numbers of doctors, paramedical staff and nurses have contracted Covid-19 from private sector hospitals where they allegedly worked part time.
