ALL public libraries were forced to close owing to the pandemic. Slowly and gradually government lifts lockdown on many sectors across the country except public libraries. Many aspirants, researchers and students are facing unprecedented challenges owing to its closure of libraries.

Some aspirants want to sit competitive examinations this year and they have already lost a lot of time for study owing to the closure of public libraries.

The reopening of public libraries with necessary safety precautions can play a key role in the post-Covid-19 recovery. A library is a repository of knowledge and wisdom where knowledge is transferred to the people.

The government has reopened shopping malls, shops and markets for five days a week and reached an agreement with business leaders that they would strictly follow SOPs.

Similarly, the government should reopen public libraries and invest in the economy of enlightened minds as it is they who will take the country forward once the lockdown is over.
