KARACHI, Jan 18: Physicians associated with the Infectious Diseases Society of Pakistan, the Pakistan Medical Association and the College of Family Physicians have formed a task force to sensitize masses about prevention and management of dog-bite cases in city.

The decision was taken in the backdrop of what concerned doctors claimed rise in the incidence of dog-bite in different cities of the country and inadequate facilities for its management.

The newly-formulated task force has been assigned to raise public awareness regarding the situation through talk shows and other programmes.

Special emphasis would be laid on convincing masses to ensure regular vaccination of their pet animals and simple modes to eliminate stray dogs besides instructions for extending first aid to the victims of dog-bite.

During the second phase of the campaign, special lecture sessions would be arranged for local general medical practitioners (GMPs).

There would also be workshops and demonstrations introducing doctors regarding the newer techniques of vaccine administration as recommended by the World Health Organization .

According to Infectious Disease Control Society of Pakistan, WHO categorically advises against the use of Sheep Brain Vaccine, which is yet being manufactured and distributed by NIH, Islamabad.—APP
