BAHAWALNAGAR: B Division police arrested a woman on charges of killing her husband over financial issues at Mohallah Islamnagar two days ago.

On June 4, Tahira raised a hue and cry in her neighbourhood, saying that her husband, Asghar, had committed suicide because of poverty. Police sent the body to the DHQ Hospital for a post-mortem.

Other family members of Asghar shared their doubts about his suicide with the district police officer and he constituted a team under B Division SHO Saifullah Hanif to launch an investigation.

The team reviewed the gathered evidence in the case and arrested Tahira for interrogation. After a few hours of interrogation, she confessed to killing Asghar.

As per SHO Hanif, Tahira had contracted marriage with Asghar, a labourer by profession, of her free will five years ago. After a couple of years, their relationship got strained because of their financial situation. During the lockdown, Asghar had to stay home because he did not get any work and their situation worsened to the point of starvation. Two days ago, Tahira drugged Asghar and when he became unconscious, she strangled him with a rope.

The police had lodged a case against Tahira under Section 302 after retrieving the murder weapon.
