KARACHI, Jan 18: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s coordination committee has hailed the government’s decision to abolish the separate electorates and hold the elections under the joint electoral system.
In a statement, it was said that the Muttahida had been demanding the joint electoral system in the country for long; the religious minorities and the majority of the people were also in favour of the joint electoral system.
The coordination committee expressed the view that though the present government was non-elected, the Muttahida welcomed the decision of such nature.
However, it said that if the government was sincere in bringing reforms in the country and was not taking measures just to please the international community or serve its political interests, then it should avoid taking decisions unilaterally and call a round-table conference of political parties for a consensus before finalising reforms in various fields.
