Ertugrul producer hopes for collaborations with Pakistan soon

"We shall share our experiences with Pakistan and they should share theirs with us, and together we will sign world-shaking deals," he said.

Not only has Dirilis Ertugrul made a huge impact in Pakistan, but Pakistani fans have made a huge impact on the show's cast and crew.

Many actors from the show have thanked their Pakistani audience for the love and record-smashing views, and now producer Mehmet Bozdag is wondering why the two countries haven't worked together on projects.

"I am surprised that we did not make any collaborations till this day because we call each other brother countries,” said Bozdag to Anadolu Agency.

“However, we have never signed a deal in the field of culture and arts. So then where is the fellowship?”

He went on to say, "When one of us is in trouble, both countries are mobilized. But we should also do this act on better days and organize days of culture not only in the cinema but also in the field of cuisine, museums and history."

"We shall share our experiences with Pakistan and they should share theirs with us, and together we will sign world-shaking deals," he said.

According to Bozdag, "Even if Turkey and Pakistan have separate borders, the souls are of one nation."

Bozdag also shared the story behind creating the popular Turkish drama, revealing, "When we started this project, we were not able to find trained horses that ran at the same time, tents were not produced and what people ate during the 13th century was a dilemma."

"When writing the story, I was 30 years old, the company was new and nobody believed in the project. After I wrote down the story, we invited a painter from Mongolia, and he depicted the story, and so the actors saw the project and had faith in it."

"While imagining, we never forgot about the reality of the period and the spirit of Islam. All of the historical dramas around the world do the same thing. We are not the first ones to come up with this method," he said.

Bozdag also revealed that the story of Ertugrul "will continue as [next drama] Kurulus: Osman," which will continue for five to six more years so it looks like fans will be getting their fix for a long time.

This show has reconnected us, at individual level, with Turkey after a very long time. The last time we connected with the Turks was during the first world war, and we had then sentiments of support and sympathy for our Turkish brethren. This time around we are connected with Turkey out of sheer admiration for their culture, values, and creative talent of the nation.

Honestly, Kurulus Osman is not that great as Dirilis Ertugrul. It's a little more soapy and feels stretched out. Atleast so far...

I believe collaboration b/w Pakistan and Turkey in films/drama/arts will significantly change Pakistani entertainment industry which is good as currently the entertainment industry relies on copying ideas from other countries than on being original and creative.

@Karachi Why no Pakistani dramas, for all the delusions, there is no genetic connection between Turks and Pakistanis. When will we see a TV show about all the great empires spawned from what is now Pakistan?

Aslam Alaikum, the Pakistani industry must encourage our own Islamic culture, instead of spreading western culture which destroyed our own identity! Those who criticize such series don't want Islamic society in Pakistan!

Great news!! An exchange can broaden our minds and help us peek outside our bubble and learn how other Muslims live. I imagine the cultural differences and the fact that our people take offense to pretty much anything that looks western, could be why collaborations haven't been done so far. How do you cater to an qudience who thinks they have the monopoly on Islam and morality and live in a bubble, where all Muslims must surely don shalwar/kameez, girls are usually portrayed as weaklings and inferior, men as evil and oppressive? Because Turkish dramas don't lean that way. Their actors don't don shalwar kameez or dubatta and they don't do saas bahu feuds, girls are portrayed as empowered, independent and more equal, men same, their stories are relatable which even other middleeasterners can relate to. Our dramas are predominently watched by desis. Nobody else can relate really. So this will be a chance for Pakistani entertainment to broader their horizons and step up their game.
