ISLAMABAD, Sept 8: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said all necessary resources will be provided for the defence of the country. The prime minister stated this during a meeting with Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gen Ahsanul Haq who called on him at the Prime Minister’s House on Thursday.

Mr Aziz said Pakistan was a peaceful country and had no aggressive designs against anyone but would maintain minimum credible deterrence as a guarantee for maintaining peace in the region.

He emphasized the need to introduce the latest technology in defence forces to meet the challenges of modern era warfare.

The prime minister also complimented the role played by the defence forces during peace time in maintaining security and law and order, helping in civil works like maintenance of Sukkur Barrage, construction of roads and necessary infrastructure and doing relief and rescue work during calamities.
