KARACHI, Sept 8: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal’s Karachi chapter has appealed to Karachiites to fully participate in Friday’s strike. MMA leaders Hafiz Mohammad Taqi, Shaikh Rafique Ahmed, Allama Hasan Turabi, Maulana Khan Mohmmad Rabbani and Birjees Ahmed, in a statement said that the rulers had deprived common man of even bread and butter.
They cautioned members and supporters of their parties to remain alert and keep a close eye on miscreants who could resort to sabotaging the peaceful strike.
Meanwhile, opposition MNAs Mohammad Hussain Mehanti, Abdul Sattar Afghani and Mohammad Laeeq Khan and MPAs Nasrullah Khan Shaji, Hameedullah and Yunus Barai have stated that Friday’s strike would be an expression of ‘no confidence’ in the government’s policies which had resulted in price-hike and rising unemployment in the country.
Meanwhile, a press release issued by the MMA on Thursday night said that transporters had expressed their full support to the strike call.
The press release named the transporters and their organizations who have assured MMA leaders of their support. They are Irshad Bokhari and Khalid Awan of the Karachi Transport Ittehad, Mehmoud Afridi of the Muslim Minibus Association, Roedad Khan of the Pakistan Minibus Association, Haji Ashraf of the Al-Asif Square Transport Association, Mr Masroor of the All-Karachi Motor Dealers Association, Haji Jalal Hashmi of the Sindh & Balochistan Transport.
