SWABI: People here have demanded of health department to install the dialysis machine brought to Bacha Khan Teaching Hospital Complex, Shahmansoor, about two months ago, saying it is also important for recovery of coronavirus patients in the district.

“We need a working dialysis machine owing to increasing number of coronavirus patients,” one of the doctors at the hospital told this correspondent.

Two Intensive Care Units (ICUs) each of eight beds had been established for coronavirus patients in the Bacha Khan hospital. One of the doctors said that each of the units had eight ventilators, but they lacked sustained supply of oxygen.

Paramedical Association, Swabi, president, Fateh Ali said that Munir Khan, a pharmacy technician, was on ventilator when he developed acute renal problem for which urgent hemodialysis was needed, but the machine was not functional and he passed away three days ago.

When contacted, the hospital MS Dr Abdul Latif said anyone put on ventilator had 20 per cent survival chance and heartbeat of the patient was not normal.

He said they had received a donated dialysis machine a few weeks ago, but its accessories were not provided.

Prof Dr Fasehuz Zaman said the machine could not produce good results and that was why they did not take interest in its installation. In addition, he said, its accessories were not available in the market.
