Mirwaiz to brief Musharraf on talks

NEW DELHI, Sept 6: Kashmir’s resistance leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq will meet President Gen Pervez Musharraf in New York next week, diplomatic sources said on Tuesday.

Confirming remarks by the chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) to an Indian news agency on Tuesday, the sources said if the Mirwaiz was going to New York at the time of Gen Musharraf’s visit, it was reasonable to conclude they would meet.

The Mirwaiz had told Dawn earlier he would participate in the meeting of the OIC contact group on Kashmir in New York this month.

The Press Trust of India quoted Mirwaiz as saying the meeting could take place on Sept 17, three days after the president’s talks with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New York. “This will add yet another brick to the consolidation process of finding a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir issue,” Mirwaiz told PTI.
