LAHORE: PML-N President and opposition leader in National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif has demanded a probe into the medicine scandal through a parliamentary committee.

“Like the sugar and wheat scandal, Imran Niazi is also the chief culprit in the medicine scandal. Niazi gave approval for importing medicine from India in a cabinet meeting. Import of other medicines

under the garb of life-saving medicines is a heinous crime which must not go unpunished,” he said in a statement issued here on Friday.

Shahbaz said had any such thing came to fore in the PML-N tenure, Imran Niazi would have filed a petition for treason against the government.

“Imran Niazi is also the health minister that’s why he needs to answer and explain himself over this scandal worth billions,” he asked.

The PML-N leader said corruption worth billions through medicines had surfaced before as well but Imran Niazi had not only sheltered the politician in question but awarded her a special position in his government.

“Imran’s cluelessness is not enough as this concerns life-saving drugs and lives of the people of Pakistan. The guilty must be apprehended, brought to justice and given exemplary punishment,” he demanded.

Meanwhile, PML-N Punjab Information Secretary Azma Bokhari has reminded Chief Minister Usman Buzdar of his tall claim of building nine major hospitals in the province.

“After coming to power about two years ago, the handpicked chief minister of Prime Minister Imran Khan had claimed to build nine state-of-the-art hospitals but he failed to set up even one,” she said, adding the Punjab government had miserably failed to curb the spread of the Covid-19.
