Goosen records six-shot victory

BEIJING, Sept 4: South Africa’s Retief Goosen fired a sizzling eight-under-par 64 to record a six-shot victory over Michael Campbell at the China Masters on Sunday.

World number five Goosen matched the course record he set in Thursday’s first round to comfortably beat US Open champion Campbell.

Goosen quickly extended his one-stroke overnight lead over New Zealander Campbell with a five-hole birdie blitz sparked by a 15-foot putt on the second.

Goosen holed out on 22-under-par 266 to complete a wire-to-wire triumph only slightly dampened by a bogey on the 18th.

GARCIA STILL LEADS

CRANS-SUR-SIERRE (Switzerland): Sergio Garcia regained the lead after an extraordinary finish to the European Masters third round on Saturday and set up the prospect of another exciting battle with defending champion Luke Donald.

After slipping from the top of the leaderboard with a three-putt and a double-bogey six at the 17th, the Spaniard holed out with his approach to eagle the last and complete a level-par 71.

WOODS STUMBLES

NORTON (Massachusetts): Olin Browne and Jeff Brehaut grabbed a share of the lead while world number one Tiger Woods struggled in the second round of the $5.5 million Deutsche Bank Championship on Saturday.

Browne hit seven birdies in his first 10 holes en route to a six-under-par 65 which helped him tie Brehaut on nine-under 133.

Woods, who started the day one stroke ahead, struggled with his driver and left a number of putts short as he carded a two-over 73 for 138, four under.
