LAHORE: Punjab police Inspector General Shoaib Dastagir has said his force is well aware of its social responsibilities, including helping the poor affected by the lockdown across the province.
Talking to officers at the Central Police Office here on Wednesday, he said his department was actively contributing to the Police Relief Fund established following coronavirus outbreak to provide basic necessities to the deserved families and daily wagers during the lockdown.
The IG said the entire police force had donated for the fund from their salaries which reflected the spirit of Punjab police that served the public whenever the nation was faced with any calamity.
“The officials, from senior command to the constables, from all the districts have donated Rs50 million to provide ration to more than 20,000 affected families”, he said.
A ration bag, to be given to the poor by the department, comprising flour, ghee, pulses, sugar and other kitchen items, would be sufficient for a family for fifteen days, he said.
The distribution process of ration bags began with the help of the district administration.
