KARACHI, Aug 27: Naib Amir of Jamaat-i-Islami Senator Prof Ghafoor Ahmad has criticized the government’s political manoeuvring as ‘a matter of grave concern’, and said that such an attitude posed a threat to the country’s solidarity and cohesion.

The major parties operating at national level have been made to suffer the defeat through the manipulation in the local body election and the results thereof, he maintained.

Demanding that the recently-held LB polls be declared null and void, he called for fresh election and urged Gen Pervez Musharraf not to resort to partiality as his partial attitude would not be in the interest of the country.

Prof Ghafoor was addressing a press conference at the JI office, Idara Noor-i-Haq here on Saturday.

He invited all opposition forces to launch a peaceful movement jointly with the one-point agenda of fresh general elections under the supervision of a chief election commissioner to be appointed with the consent of the opposition.
