LAHORE, Aug 24: Government High School Nanakpura (GHSN), Peshawar Region emerged champions of the National school cricket tournament beating Ibrahim Alibhai School (IAS) Karachi Region on ‘bowled out’ method by one wicket in the final at the Qadhafi Stadium on Wednesday.

Both the schools were tied at eight points each when IAS was 201 for eight wickets in reply to GHSN first innings 266 for all out in 112.3 overs after having resumed at 227 for six wickets. To decide the final, both the teams were given five balls to send down without any batsman in front.

Peshawar’s bowler hit the wicket twice while Karachi once. For IAS opener Shabbir Hussain remained top scorer with 78 runs off 127 balls, hitting 12 fours and one six. Younis Khan (43, seven fours) was the other key scorer.

Earlier, for GHSN overnight not out batsman Jibran Khan remained top scorer with 65, cracking seven fours while facing 191 balls. Jibran was also declared Man-of-the-Final.

His team-mate Shahzad Khan remained top run getter of the tournament with 429 runs. Karachi school’s Anwar Ali who took four wickets was the best bowler of the tournament with 18 wicket haul.

Abdur Razzaq of Quetta was the best wicket keeper, holding nine catches.
