PESHAWAR: The students of the Gomal University on Saturday set up a protest camp outside the Peshawar Press Club against alleged corruption in the varsity and demanded of the provincial government to order probe into the reports about misappropriation of funds and harassment of students.

Talking to mediapersons, representatives of the students’ action committee, including Khalid Khan Wazir, Zeeshan Betani, Sanaullah Marwat and Fawad Khattak, said that the government was not paying attention towards solution to the university’s problems and the ultimate sufferers were the students.

They pointed out that many seats, including that of registrar, controller, director finance and teachers, had long been vacant but the government was not taking notice. The students alleged that funds meant for the students’ magazine, sports and hostel were embezzled and, as a result, the university was facing financial crisis.

The action committee members claimed that reports about incidents of harassment of female students were on the rise which had created serous unrest among their parents.
