IT is shocking that the Attorney General of Pakistan had the audacity to cast aspersions on a 10-member Supreme Court Bench despite his oath to uphold and protect the constitution.

Pakistan was created to be a democratic and modern welfare state. Instead, it fell victim to a few ambitious men. After the imposition of martial law in 1958, the politicians, including those who were part of constitutional struggle led by the Quaid, were banned from political activity by a military junta.

It is unfortunate that only after the 1971 dismemberment of the country did we manage to unanimously adopt the 1973 Constitution. It was a civilian government which laid down foundations of our sole effective nuclear defence strategy, which prevents our enemies from attacking us.

One prays that rule of law and supremacy of constitution prevail in this country. The Supreme Court of Pakistan along with the parliament and the executive are three constitutional institutions of this country and all civil and uniformed public servants are supposed to fulfill their jobs within their constitutionally defined jurisdiction.
