DACCA: Press workers of some of the local dailies served the first day of their “indefinite strike”, today [Feb 23]. The strike was resorted to in support of their 22-point charter of demands. Although negotiations between the Press workers and the management continued for the whole day today, nothing concrete could be achieved till this evening and consequently these newspapers would not be able to see the light of the day tomorrow.
However, the Press workers of the daily “Ittefaq” and the “Azad” reported to work after an amicable agreement with their respective managements. The question of strike by the “Sangram” Press workers did not arise at all as they had no grievance, claimed a spokesman of the daily. According to the present position, only three dailies are coming out tomorrow and the presses of all the other local dailies remained idle throughout the day today.
[Meanwhile, as reported by an agency in Karachi,] The tribunal set up recently by the Provincial Government to probe into the Police firing on mill workers in Karachi in November last held its first session here yesterday [Feb 22].
