PESHAWAR: Mr Humayun Khan, Director of Industries, West Pakistan, said here yesterday [Feb 22] that Sui gas would be extended to Frontier region by the end of 1971.

Replying to a memorandum presented to him by the President of the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Humayun said that the Government had decided to increase the capacity of all those textile mills where less than 12,500 spindles were installed, to 25,000 spindles as they were uneconomical. The same demand was also made in the memorandum.

Director Industries assured the traders that all efforts would be made to increase the tax holiday from three to six years for Peshawar region which was “quite under-developed”. He said the extension of tax holiday for the industrial estate at Jamrud to six years was under consideration of the Government.

Mr Humayun Khan disclosed that the PICIC was considering setting up two more textile mills in the Peshawar region besides the four planned for the whole of West Pakistan. He assured the traders that their applications would be preferred to others for these two mills. — Agency
