HYDERABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) information secretary Senator Maula Bux Chandio has observed that the masses were faced with more and more issues with each passing day due to poor governance by the government at the centre. He advised the forces on whose support the government had been clinging to power to stop backing Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Mr Chandio was speaking at a gathering of workers organised by the Hyderabad Development Authority (HDA) employees union at a private marriage garden here on Friday.

Workers of the HDA, its subsidiary Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa), Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco), Habib Bank Limited and powerhouse as well as office-bearers and activists of PPP’s local chapter were among the audience.

He accused the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI)-led government of telling lies from day one. He recalled that Prime Minister Imran Khan had always been claiming that he would not forgive those who were responsible for the inflation prevailing in the country but later on he admitted his party’s failure being partly responsible for the trend. “Why shouldn’t he step down?”, Mr Chandio argued.

He noted that each and every citizen was today badly hit by the unprecedented inflation and was criticising the federal government over the situation.

He said Mr Khan soon after coming to power had promised that he would pull the country out of crises with the help of his team of competent party colleagues but now, when nothing good could be done by the team, the prime minister had resorted to using foul language against opposition forces instead of correcting himself and his team.

Comparing the PPP leadership with that of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), he said Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari in his first address to party workers had pledged every sacrifice, including his life, for the country and the nation but [PML-N leader] Nawaz Sharif never made such an offer in his entire political career.

Describing Urdu-speaking people as “real sons of soil”, Mr Chandio said they should promote love and brotherhood to ensure peaceful and harmonious co-existence with speakers of other languages in Sindh and other parts of the country.

He noted that a peaceful atmosphere now prevailed in the province where everybody was free to express his views. He said one might have political differences with others but it did not mean one should take other’s life.

He recalled those days when there was no intrigues on racial basis in the province and both the Urdu- and Sindhi-speaking communities lived here in complete harmony. He said such an atmosphere had to be restored by forgetting events of the past.

Commenting on the issues of striking HDA and Wasa employees, Mr Chandio said he had already requested Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah to find a permanent solution to these problems and ensure payment of salaries to workers in genuine cases. He said Mr Shah assured him that he would speak to the chief minister in order to settle the issues.

Senator Chandio advised activists and supporters of opposition parties to remain united and support PPP to ensure prosperity, saying that only PPP could bring in sustainable democracy in the country.
