PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has said that government is taking concrete steps for promotion of quality education throughout the province including tribal districts.

He directed the elementary and secondary education department to include a chapter on the life of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) in the syllabus for the charter building of the students.

A statement issued here said that the chief minister was chairing a meeting of elementary and secondary education department here on Thursday wherein he was informed that recruitment against 11,555 vacant posts of teachers was in progress.

He was told that appointment letters were issued to 1,000 teachers whereas the remaining would be issued before March 31 of the current year.

The meeting was informed that recruitment of teachers was initiated for additional 12,156 posts that would be completed before June 30. Similarly, 4,500 new posts have been created in the schools of tribal districts whereas creation of 530 additional posts is in process.

The meeting was informed that more than1,000 teachers were suspended for absenteeism. The independent monitoring unit has been extended to 90 per cent schools of tribal districts while educational voucher scheme has been extended to 22 districts of the province under which 23,652 students in 462 different schools are being provided with financial assistance at a cost of Rs180 million.

The meeting was informed that under the Accelerated Implementation Program 2019-20, out of 15 projects six projects have been approved while PC-1 for the remaining projects are under process. The meeting was also informed about the financial status of AIP under which Rs. 7.6 billion were allocated out of which 2.9 billion have been released.

The meeting was informed that creation of 530 more posts for the tribal districts would be completed soon. It was told that Rs15 million was disbursed to various district education offices for better performance under the district incentive program.

Furthermore, Rs1,375 million has been released to them to provide the missing facilities to different schools while Rs150 million has been already released for the improvement of play areas in various schools.

On the occasion, the chief minister ordered improvement of model schools and colleges across the province. He said that government was taking concrete steps for promotion of quality education throughout the province including merged districts.

He said that government would provide teaching staff and other basic facilities to all the educational institutions on priority basis.
