MARDAN: The police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested the seminary teacher who subjected one of his pupils to severe punishment in Shergar locality of Thakhtbai tehsil.

According to the police’s preliminary investigation, the seminary teacher identified as Qari Saif-ur-Rehman was severely beating one of his students named Shehzad, 9, when a local made video of the act.

They said that the video maker also tried to stop the teacher from beating the student, but he continued to torture the pupil.

The Shergar police officials said that they had registered FIR against the seminary teacher and began further investigations into the matter.

Meanwhile, the victim student was discharged from the Thakhtbai hospital and handed over to his parents.
