ISLAMABAD: Three shopkeepers were arrested by capital police during the last three days for selling kites and strings in violation of ban, police said on Wednesday.

Two persons were arrested from Khanna and one from Sabzi Mandi, they added.

On Feb 2, the capital administration imposed a ban on kite flying and its manufacturing and sale of kites, string, metallic wire and nylon cord for two months.

The string used in flying kites is a threat to human life and safety of the general public.

On Wednesday, the Khanna police raided a market in Zia Masjid area and arrested two shopkeepers for violating the ban. Besides, the police also recovered over 700 kites, along with dozens of rolls of string, metallic wire and nylon cord.

The Khanna police SHO SI Mohammad Gul Faraz said that the violators purchased kites and other stuff from Rawalpindi to sell them to the residents of the area.

They will be produced in the court of magistrate on Thursday (today) for judicial remand, he added.

Earlier, Sabzi Mandi police arrested a dealer and recovered over a 1,000 kites and hundreds of rolls of string, metallic wire and nylon cord, the police said, adding he was described as one of the main dealers in capital.

Number of shopkeepers from the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad bought kites, string, metallic wire and nylon cord from him at wholesale rate, they said, adding the violator produced in the court of magistrate from where he was sent to jail on judicial remand.
