LAHORE: The West Pakistan Governor, Lt-Gen Atiqur Rahman, today [Feb 11] emphasised the need for keeping the campus atmosphere free from external influence. This, he said, was vital to ensure unhindered studies to the university students. Gen Atiq was discussing university problems at a conference of the six Vice-Chancellors of the Universities of West Pakistan at the Governor’s House.
The Governor stressed the need for maintaining law and order at the campuses. He assured the Vice-Chancellors of full Government support. What was most needed, he said, was normalcy in the higher seats of learning in the country. The Vice-Chancellors discussed their problems collectively and individually with the Governor in the light of his policy statement yesterday. — Agency
[Meanwhile, as reported by an agency in Karachi,] The legality of the Interim Award of Justice A.S. Farooqui, Chairman of the Second Wage Board for Working Journalists, has been challenged in an appeal filed before the Labour Appellate Tribunal, Karachi, by member-newspapers of the All-Pakistan Newspaper Society. The identically worded appeal filed by the APNS member-newspapers termed the Interim award arbitrary, capricious, excessive, oppressive and liable to prejudice seriously the proper running of the industry itself.”
