PESHAWAR: Pakistan Peoples Party has urged Prime Minister Imran Khan to constitute an impartial committee to probe the flour and sugar crisis to expose the elements exploiting the poor consumers.

The demand was made by provincial president Mohammad Humayun Khan and former MPA Dr Faiza Rasheed while addressing separate meetings here on Sunday.

They expressed serious concern over the soaring prices of daily use commodities and alleged that influential people in the ruling parties were responsible for the inflation.

Mr Khan said Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf had done nothing for welfare of the poor, but attempted to pressure the opposition.

He said media was under constant pressure not to cover the events of opposition parties.

He said Imran Khan had forgotten all of his tall claims he had made during his prolonged sit-in in Islamabad.

Similarly, Dr Faiza Rasheed claimed that some influential people had created artificial crisis of flour and sugar to the agony of the poor.

She said the prime minister should form a powerful committee comprising of impartial people to probe the ‘scam’ and fix the responsibility.

She referred to a report that Pakistan’s public debt and liabilities (domestic and external) had jumped to a worrisome figure of Rs35.0954 trillion by end of March 2019, which was more than double the Rs16.338 trillion in 2013.

The former MPA said the government lawmakers were interested in increasing their perks and privileges, and not in resolving the problems being faced by the masses.
