Karachi Port operations

KARACHI, Aug 22: Cargo handling at the Karachi Port set a new record on Monday as the total tonnage handled soared to 0.173m tons, surpassing the previous record of 0.150m tons.

According to a KPT press release, although bulk of the tonnage — 74,100 tons — went to the credit of liquid cargo, general goods also showed an impressive increase at 31,528 tons of export tonnage and 0.141m tons of the import cargo.

Meanwhile, another record was established after having berthed 13 ships on the vacant berths. The ships, which were berthed included Eastern Sea, Sagamore, Wester Muehlen, Sinar Riau, Maersk Alaska, Ilse Wuff, to unload and load containers, Tilos, Captain Adham, Iran Yamin, to unload and load general cargo, Swat, Miro, oil tankers, Shang Yuan Men, to offload rock phosphate, and Courageous Ace, to offload cars.

Sailing was active as 11 ships, Eax Sanctity, Iran Shahryar, PAC Amtia, Wan Hai-261, Sagamore, Orbit, Darta Gyanm, Swat, Tilos, Miro and Courages Ace, while Chong Cohn Gabgm Ilse Wuff and Lalazar are due to sail out on Tuesday.

The following ships are due on Tuesday: Plemonte, to load 60,000 tons of naphtha, Bagi to offload 70,000 tons of crude oil, Hanjin Busan, APL Dalian, Ever Guide, Global Princess, with containers and Arihant, with 9,900 tons general cargo.
