Sonya Hussyn turned down Meray Paas Tum Ho's lead role for all the right reasons

I know it's a story but I can't see women characterised in such a negative light, she said.

Did you know that Sonya Hussyn was offered the role of Mehwish in Meray Pass Tum Ho?

A clip from the actor's interview with Iffat Omar is making the rounds on social media where she revealed she turned down the role once she found out more about the drama.

Hussyn justified her choice of rejecting the role and said, "I have a problem when it comes to such roles actually. There is no acceptance of women in our society as it is, I didn't want to play a role that would perpetuate more issues."

"While I know it's a story and there are actors who play these characters, but I can't see women characterised in such a negative light. I just couldn't accept the role."

When asked if she regretted making that choice once the drama became a hit and the ratings were off the charts, Hussyn responded with, "Not at all. I took the decision after putting in a lot of thought behind it. I just couldn't accept it."

It's good to know some people do have their priorities straight and quietly stand up for the right things in society.

Of course Sonya Hussyn has every right to her choice of roles and her thinking. She is a very attractive lady in her own right and I respect her and admire her for the stand she took considering she felt the way she did about the role of Mehwish.. More power to her. On the other hand, Ayeza Khan who took the role of Mehwish is a superb actress as well, her smile and facial expressions are just the best of the best. I have gone back in time and binge watched many of Ayeza Khan's serials. I think I may have fallen in love with her . LOL

I will concede Pakistan has numerous very good looking and talented actors and actresses, and I love to watch Pakistani serials. But I must state that Danish's soliloquy in the last episode was unnecessarily stretched out and boring as hell. If I had paid good money to watch that in a theater, I'd have been disappointed and disgruntled.

Soniya is the only sensible actor around with such mature choice of plays...Meri guriya and Ishq zahenaseeb etc

In a world where actors are only concerned with making hay while the sun shines ( In India they are becoming guests at lavish weddings for Rs one crore), the decision of Sonya surely deserves praise. Hope other actors also try to emulate her. Hats off to you, Sonya.

No doubt Sonya Hussain is a remarkable actor but then refusing to act in the leading negative role of drama serial Mere Pass Tum Ho, proves that she is afraid to take up challenging roles. Ayeza Khan as Mehwish in MPTH has performed extraordinarily & took up the challenge courageously. Keep it up Ayeza! You may not agree with the writer's view but then it happens in real life.

@Fareesa It doesn't prove she was afraid, she stood for principle and refused because of inappropriate language , and the way women are humiliated in this part of the world. Read the world forum gender parity report ,2020 Pakistan stands at the bottom at 153 against 155.

Good for Sonia not taking the role. Clapping for her. Ayeza did superb jutice to character she played. In this industry, all that matters in the end is how well you get along with your role and kudos to Ayeza for that.

Its good to know actors think through every role. Lately m kind of disappointed in Ayeza khan for chosing very mediocre roles. She knows because of her ratings would go high or probably because she chose such script jise aam awam dekhe, masala and all. I haven't seen her taking projects with responsibility ever. Take for example thora sa haq, yarian.

Hats off to this graceful lady . Well done keep it up. Hope all saner souls will emulate. Selling one's soul to the Mammon is not the best thing in the world.

So, according to Sonya, women are not to be blamed for having affairs ? Come on !!!!!! A fact is a fact is a fact, that women is equally in such situations just as men are. I have many examples from a real life perspective. Give us some other reason, not the one you just gave. I am glad, you didn't Mehvish character, as Ayza did an incredible acting job portraying Mehwish.

Great foresight ! Good for Sonya Hussyn! In Canada, I can't see why "Meray Pass... was called a hit! It's a kitschy remake of Bollywood trash!

@Vijay B. It was "fun" watching a Pakistani Mualsim lead character ask for forgiveness with hands slapped in Hindu fashion! I thought Pakistanis were bent of distancing themselves from Indian roots!

Her opinion and decision does not change the fact that it happens in real life. Mehwish was a very challenging role to act and Ayeza Khan acted superbly!! It only shows she is a superior actor. Excellent job Ayeza!!!
