BOMBAY: Mr. R.K. Karanjia, Editor of the Bombay Weekly “Blitz” was acquitted by the Chief Presidency Magistrate Bombay of the charge under the Children’s Act of publishing particulars calculated to lead to the identification of a child in a criminal proceeding.

A doctor was arrested on March 31 last on the charge of having caused hurt to his 5-year-old daughter. The “Blitz” published an article which among other things indicated the hospital in which the child was being treated, the age of the child and the community to which it belonged. The doctor’s lawyer sent to the paper a warning pointing out the prohibition against publication of names of juveniles contained in the Children’s Act. This letter was published in a subsequent issue with the name of the doctor. The Magistrate held that the articles did not fall within the relevant section of the Children’s Act.

[Meanwhile, as reported from Washington,] The Officials of the U.S. War Department are worried that Americans are not tough towards German civilians… A prime example is offered by the New York ‘Sun’, one of whose dispatches said:- “Look at the women and kids in a German town… They are the most timid people I have ever seen”.
