Sindh University

THIS is apropos the letter ‘Sindh University’ (Dec 26). Its English department needs attention because of faulty assessment and marks given to students.

Some teachers do maintain impartiality, but in many cases teachers give higher marks even to candidates who do not deserve those marks. This is done out of favouritism and nepotism. This is unfair to those students who burn midnight oil.

Every year thousands of candidates take part in the CSS examinations but a small number of candidates get through. The reason for this is those students who pass their examinations at college or university on the basis of favouritism. Although they are eligible for CSS examinations, they lack competence which is why they fail to pass CSS examinations.

The director of the English department should look into this issue.
