KARACHI: More than 300 players from 18 schools in the city appeared for the football trials for selection at the Karachi Bulls Football Academy here on Tuesday.

The trials, held under the watchful eye of coach Qamar Yar Khan, were organized at the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Football Stadium. The academy was established recently under the auspices of Sports for Life in collaboration with DMC South.

Shahzad Qazi, CEO Sports for Life, said that in the first phase male players are being selected for the formation of Gulshan and Saddar Zones teams. The selected players would be sent to Lahore and Sialkot as well for playing matches there next month.

He added that teams from seven zones in Karachi would also be formed at the academy which will receive trainings from professional coaches.

“In the second phase the trials of female players would commence from the first week of February,” said Shahzad.

He lauded the efforts of DMC South towards promotion of sports under chairman Malik Fayyaz Awan.

Vice Chairman of the Sindh Olympic Association (SOA) Asif Azim was present at the trials and said that sports academies play a key role in nurturing any sport in discovering new talent. “Sports for Life and DMC South have taken a fine step by setting up this academy that would boost the spirit of young athletes,” said Asif.
