Cambridge schools

Published January 21, 2020

WE all know well about the pathetic educational standards in Sindh. According to an estimate, about 6.6 million children are out of school in Sindh who are engaged in labour.

In Sindh, about 57 per cent of primary, 37pc middle and 15pc high schools have been suffering from a shortage of electricity. Although Rs1.5 billion is being spent on education in Sindh, there are almost 60pc schools which are not properly maintained and lack basic facilities.

In 2013, the Sindh government had indicated that it would establish 50 Cambridge and comprehensive English medium schools for children whose families cannot afford expenses of the private schools.

Seven billion rupees were to be spent on these 50 schools. Sadly, Rs4.5 billion was utilised on the construction of these schools, but only 21 schools have been established so far in Sukkur, Larkana, Ghokti, etc. Unfortunately, even these 21 schools are not properly managed.

The Sindh government should take immediate steps to manage these already built schools properly.
